Hyundai i40 facelift (2015): a taste of Santa Fe

Hyundai is readying a mid-life facelift for its i40 range of saloons and estates.

These new spy photos from Germany capture the new 2015 Hyundai i40 in estate guise; the revisions will apply to the four-door saloon as well, CAR understands.

Hyundai i40 (2015): what’s new?

Not a huge amount, we have to concede. The light disguise masking the i40’s exterior hides a mild mid-life facelift, bringing the brand’s latest evolution of its ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language to bear.

A heavy cloak is worn front and rear, hiding the detail of what Hyundai has changed. But check out the more prominent grille, whose horizontal bars clearly show through the front cladding, and the bold, centrally mounted H-for-Hyundai badge. Looks like it’s getting a more imposing, Santa Fe-style grille, we’d bet.

The interior will be updated, too. Expect a fresh makeover and new functionality to the likes of infotainment systems and revised equipment levels.

No major engineering changes are expected, however, with today’s range of petrol and diesel engines continuing largely unchanged. And – no – don’t expect Recaro seats or rollcages for production; this is merely a safety precaution to keep drivers intact during testing at the Nordschleife in Germany.

Prices, specs for new 2015 Hyundai i40 range

Prices aren’t expected to rise with the 2015 facelift; the saloon starts at £19,105 today and the wagon £20,355 – a modest inflationary rise is anticipated.

See the new-look Hyundais in showrooms by spring 2015.

The upgraded i40 will be joined in sprint 2015 by similar changes wrought to the smaller i30 range (which gains a new turbocharged engine family) and the oddball Veloster coupe family.
